Today on “The View From The Bay” Keeping the peace with Mom on mother’s day

Spencer introduces us as “Just as wild and wonderful as Joan Rivers”!

Four simple ways to celebrate mom “beyond brunch” and show her how much she means to you!

Make mom feel good on Mother’s Day:

  1. Promote inner peace: Do something you know she would never do for herself, indulge her with a massage appt or take her on a hike to a beautiful waterfall. (Maybe she’ll leave you alone about your career choice for a little while too.)
  2. Make peace/show your love: Make sure she knows how much you love her with words–write a poem, or a sweet note. Be nice to her the whole day-long. (You get to focus on the good times, instead of any recent disagreements)
  3. Have a peaceful day: Do something for her — plant a bunch of new spring flowers, get her car detailed and then take her out to dinner and let her choose where to go. Let her choose the movie or make her lunch at your house. (She’ll know how much you appreciate her with your actions)
  4. Thoughtful gifts: Get her something you know she’s been wanting–load up a kindle with her favorite authors, find a long-lost edition of a book, get her the jewelry she’s been wanting, get her an ipod and fill it with her favorite music (and show her how to use it in a non-condescending tone!)

The history of Mother’s Day in America:

The first North American Mother’s Day was conceptualized with Julia Ward Howe’s Mother’s Day Proclamation in 1870. Despite having penned The Battle Hymn of the Republic 12 years earlier, Howe had become so distraught by the death and carnage of the Civil War that, she called on Mother’s to come together and protest what she saw as the futility of their Sons killing the Sons of other Mothers.

In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed it into national observance, declaring the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

New Episode: I’m a Traveling Mama and I don’t wanna

Dear Lady Brain,

Most people would say I have a fantastic job — it’s high-paying, high-powered, high-profile and highly demanding.  I never minded any of these things before I had a child.  The major problem with this gig is I travel eight days a month.  I‘m away from my husband and son eight days and nights a month. I’m a nursing mother, which means I’m pumping like a cow when I’m on the road, bringing home as much milk as I can, my supply dwindling all the while.  I’m writing because I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore.  We could get by on less money; even survive with out my salary — that’s a fact.  It would be tight, but doable.  I even think my ego could handle it.  What on Earth should I do?--I Wanna Stay Home in San Francisco

Listen in for tales of the bellboy and the milk bags!

Sex tips for all you parents! (An interview with the “Mominatrix”)

mominatrix_book_sm2We had the pleasure of interviewing the infamous sex columnist, author, and host of “Morning sex with the Mominatrix,” Kristen Chase, who brings eye-popping sex advice to droopy-eyed parents everywhere. (Caveat–we recorded this remotely and the sound quality is less than ideal–work with us people!) CLICK TO PLAY EPISODE.

We asked her  about her show, Morning Sex with the Mominatrix, as well as how she keeps the fire lit with her own husband. Turns out absence—and getting rid of the yoga pants–makes the wife more horny–how bout them apples?

She also gives us some great tips on how moms and dads can get out of the rut and get naughty.

-Steph and Lauren

PS Her new book can be pre-ordered (do it now before you get too tired or something!) and comes out in January, 2010. It gives moms everywhere permission to exchange their mommy jeans for something just a bit more, um . . . flattering. Good moms can be sexy mamas with just a little mominatrix training! It’s less about learning the latest and greatest blow job technique and more about figuring out how to make a sexual relationship work when the batteries from your vibrator are now powering your baby monitor and the last orgasm you had was when your baby slept four hours in a row.
